WPT Schedules an Unexpected New Stop for Season XXI

The World Poker Tour (WPT) has once again expanded its worldwide reach by adding an intriguing new stop to the second half of its twenty-first season.

Even though it seems like just last week when the wildly successful WPT World Championship in December concluded, the tournament staff is eagerly anticipating the next grand finale.

A multitude of tournaments, including tour stops and WPT Premier competitions, will pave the way to the final. The WPT’s Season XXI calendar also includes a new event in Liechtenstein.

Global Evolution Continues
According to WPT CEO Adam Pliska, the decision to add a new stop to the yearly itinerary stems from his desire to create a genuinely international poker tour.

Pliska said in Thursday’s news release, “As we finalize the schedule for Season XXI of the World Poker Tour, we are pleased to be returning to some familiar WPT hosts and welcoming a first-ever stop in Liechtenstein, continuing our commitment to offer poker to committed players across the world.”

In August, WPT Prime Aix-en-Provence will kick off the second part of Season XXI. The €1,100 event will be held from August 3 to 6 at Pasino Grand Casino, a new WPT host location.

The WPT Premier tour will then stop in Taiwan before making its first stop in the Principality of Liechtenstein.

Season XXI Second Half Schedule – Dates of Major Events
WPT Prime Aix-en-Provence: August 3rd to the 6th at Pasino Grand (Provence, France)
WPT Premier Taiwan will be held from August 17-21 at the Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association (Taipei, Taiwan)
WPT Premier Liechtenstein: Sep 8 – 11 @ Grand Casino LI AG (Liechtenstein)
WPT Australia: September 22-September 27 at The Star Gold Coast (Gold Coast, Australia)
WPT Premier Madrid: September 28 to October 1 at Casino Gran Via (Madrid, Spain)
WPT bestbet Scramble: November 10 through November 14 @ Bestbet Poker, Simulcast, and Race (Jacksonville, Florida)
WPT Seminole Rock ‘N’ Roll Poker Open: November 24 to November 29 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino (Hollywood, Florida)
The German-speaking microstate, located between Austria and Switzerland, may be little in size, but its founders have ambitious goals. WPT Prime Liechtenstein will be held at Grand Casino LI AG, and if the CHF1,100 tournament receives the same number of entrants as earlier events on the tour, more than a thousand players might descend on the micronation.

WPT is Increasing its Accessibility to International Audiences
WPT Australia will begin the second part of the main series. In 2022, 709 competitors participated in the tour’s debut major event in Australia. This was the largest live poker tournament ever held in Queensland, and the winner, David Tang, took home AUD$647,470.

In September, the WPT’s tournament squad will return to Australia. In addition to side events and a live webcast of the final table, the organizers of the WPT Australia main event have increased the buy-in to AUD$8,000 and added an additional beginning flight owing to the tournament’s popularity.

The remaining 2023 WPT calendar demonstrates how far the organization has progressed since its inception in 2002. It was essentially a made-for-television tournament series that hosted practically all of its tournaments in the United States at the time (apart from stops in France and Aruba).

Fast-forwards The WPT tournament team has hosted major events, Prime and WPT500 tournaments online and in numerous places across the globe for 20 years. The WPT Season XXI schedule continues on this trend, giving players additional opportunities to win poker’s most prestigious championships.
