GGPoker executives were informed of the decision late last week, and Sven Stiel called it as a “positive” move forward in a press statement issued on December 1.

Since 2011, Germany’s online poker sector has been subject to regulatory uncertainty. Efforts to implement a national licensing system have been hampered by conflicts between states. The State Administration Office of Saxony-Anhalt is currently providing licenses to operators, including GGPoker, as part of a coordinated effort.

GGPoker joins Entain in Germany’s regulated online poker industry On November 25, NSUS Malta Ltd, GGPoker’s parent business, acquired authorisation to host games in Germany. The decision came at the same time as Entain was granted permission to operate online poker in Germany via bwin and Ladbrokes.

According to Sven Stiel of NSUS Germany, the new license will help not just GGPoker but also Germany’s online gaming business.

“We are glad to have taken the long and fruitful road with the German authorities.” We are now officially and legally authorized to provide our high-quality, creative, and secure poker environment. “This is a crucial step toward contemporary iGaming in Germany under professional and customer-oriented circumstances,” Stiel said in a news statement issued on December 1.

GGPoker will be subject to the country’s 5.3% rollover tax after joining Entain-owned bwin and Ladbrokes as a registered online poker operator in Germany. As part of the endeavor to implement universal laws, the new tax rate for online gambling enterprises was implemented in 2021.

Germany is now embracing complete regulation.
Online poker has never been considered illegal in Germany, but it has been a gray industry for more than a decade due to a lack of formal restrictions. Things started to change in March 2020, when the German government issued draft rules.

The rules are based on a treaty signed by the federal states of Germany. The Saxony-Anhalt State Administration Office was entrusted with implementing the new legislation and accepting license applications by July 2021.

According to government papers, operators who continued to provide “games of chance” after the restrictions went into effect were viewed as “untrustworthy.” Furthermore, the new laws allowed the Saxony-Anhalt State Administration Office to take “regulatory action” against “illegal gambling” activities.

In June 2022, a resolution on the regulations was enacted. This triggered the licensing procedure, which GGPoker has now completed. The world’s biggest online poker platform, including WSOP online tournaments and qualifications, is now available in Germany.
